Valverde was presented to the media earlier this week where he heaped praise on Messi, who continues to play influential role in the heart of Barcelona's attack.Messi, 30, has played hardball over contractual negotiations in recent weeks, but Valverde is optimistic that the Argentine will pen a fresh extension beyond 2018.In spite of Barcelona' struggles last term, the club ended their campaign on a high note following their 3-1 triumph over minnows Alaves in the Copa del Rey final last weekend.
Messi will be hoping to bank on the Cup success to achieve more glory next season with Valverde planning a major overhaul of the existing squad in the summer.
