Lionel Messi Once Again Stars in Barcelona Victory

Lionel Messi was able to inspire Barcelona to yet another victory, as the club were able to get a comfortable 3-0 win over Las Palmas at the Camp Nou.

The Argentine had a couple of mediocre campaigns in recent years, but he now seems to be back to his terrific best at the start of the 2017-18 season. Messi has now scored 11 goals in his seven league appearances this season, and this is the best ever start that he has made to the domestic campaign. In fact, this is even better than his tally of 10 goals in the first seven matches of the 2011-12 campaign. If Messi continues on this way, he could very well end up challenging the 100 goal mark over the calendar year.

Messi is the top scorer in the La Liga by a significant margin. He was able to inspire Barcelona to this comfortable victory even though they were playing in front of an empty stadium.

The Camp Nou was closed due to protests about the Catalan independence. Barcelona have made a sensational start to the season, but the midweek game in the Champions League saw them struggle to get over Sporting Lisbon. Importantly, Messi has been able to establish a significant margin over Cristiano Ronaldo, who is yet to score in the league this season.

The 30-year-old has now scored 47 goals in the 2017 calendar year. He has scored 14 goals than any other player in the La Liga. These goals have been instrumental in helping Barcelona take up his seventh consecutive victory. After the arrival of Ernesto Valverde, the club were expected to go through a period of adjustment but this has not been the case. Barcelona have already been able to open a seven point advantage over Real Madrid and a five point advantage over second placed Sevilla.
