Barcelona’s Lionel Messi continues to break records

Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are the 2 football players that for the past decade have been making their way in the headlines of sporting magazines and websites.

The main reason of why they have traditionally been making so much buzz in the media is because of their performances, goals and everything that they have consistently managed to accomplish with their respective clubs.

The Argentine star of Barcelona, Lionel Messi has not surprisingly once again made his way to the history-books and front-page of media. This time around it’s because of yet another record that he has surpassed after scoring his 54th goal in the group stages of the Champions League.

Manchester City faced off with Barcelona on November 1rst for a group stage Champions League and the Premier League club came out on top with a 3-1 triumph but even though Lionel Messi and his squad lost, it was a fairly memorable match for the Argentine player as he scored his 54th goal in these rounds of the European competition.

Raul was the previous record-holder as the former Real Madrid player had managed to score 53 goals and Cristiano Ronaldo is following closely behind with 51 goals being scored and taking into consideration that he still is an active player, the Portuguese star of Real Madrid has a realistic chance of breaking Raul’s record and surpassing him as well.

Barcelona is currently going through a process of renewing the contracts of their more influential players such as: Luis Suarez, Neymar, Andres Iniesta and Lionel Messi, just to name a few of the more prominent performers of the Spanish club and Messi’s current contract with Barcelona extends for 18 more months but he is expected to be offered a contract renewal in the next few weeks.
